Kitchen Garden Mushrooms contain everything you need to grow your own mushrooms. The beautiful bouquet of mushrooms grows in three easy steps - open the box, water and watch the mushrooms do the rest. Watch in astonishment as they come to life and open like corals, doubling in size every day.
Each Kitchen Garden grow-bags use up-cycled coffee grounds as compost and the grow-box is printed on recycled card and contains clear growing instructions, a good-to-go mushroom grow-bag, free water spray pump and recipe card. Once you’ve finished growing mushrooms, you’re left with nutrient rich soil enhancer. Just empty the compost from grow-bag, break it up and sprinkle into pots of houseplants or onto flowerbeds for them to enjoy too!
IMPORTANT: When we send the kit we’ve prepared it in advance so it’s ready to grow! We strongly recommend opening the Kitchen Garden within 1 month of purchase. After the first harvest the pink oyster mushrooms can then prepare for Round 2 – they’re vigorous little mushrooms! Simply leave the Kitchen Garden to rest for 10 days then start again by watering it – all instructions are on the pack – you may even get a third round if you’re lucky!
Oyster mushrooms are fantastic to cook with. They have an admirable velvety appearance, smooth firm texture and a delicately rich flavour with a fresh peppery scent. This makes them an excellent ingredient for soups, risottos or our favourite mushrooms on toast!
Nutritionally, they’re a treat too and good for your health - high in protein and fibre, low calorie and contain zero fat and cholesterol. Oyster mushrooms are naturally rich in vitamins and nutrients including vitamin B and vitamin C and significant levels of zinc, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, folic acid and niacin. They also contain polysaccharides which can strengthen the immune system, can naturally help decrease cholesterol levels and may even have a positive effect on some tumours.
